I'm Rylee Fleury, your 26-year-old candidate for Skagit County Commissioner. I'm running because our beautiful county deserves leadership that respects the law, protects our way of life, and truly serves its people.
Skagit County is at a Crossroads
Our county faces unprecedented challenges. As I write this, the Washington State Supreme Court is deliberating on the validity of our primary election certification. This isn't just a legal technicality – it's a fundamental issue that strikes at the heart of our democratic process. If the court rules against the current commissioners, they won't be able to certify the general election either. This uncertainty underscores the urgent need for leadership that understands and respects electoral law.
But our challenges don't end there. The current administration has made several decisions that contradict state laws and threaten our community's well-being:
- Grizzly Bear Introduction: The incumbent commissioner voted to introduce 200 grizzly bears into Skagit County, violating RCW 77.12.035 and endangering our residents and livestock.
- Attacks on Our Farmers: The current leadership voted to sue local farmers over storage container placement, imposing $1000 daily penalties. This action violates state RCWs and federal Right to Farm acts.
- Farmland Use Restrictions: An emergency moratorium on farmland use has been imposed, further hampering our agricultural community.
- Self-Serving Pay Raises: The commission used King County's Consumer Price Index to give themselves the highest raise in the state, instead of using Skagit County's CPI.
My Vision for Skagit County
